Twogether Consulting is pleased to have Christopher McGreal and his team from Disability Rights of Texas (DRTx) as one of our guest presenters in August.  Christopher will share information and insights into the current fair housing acts and codes, as well as some of the important IDD issues revolving around the Texas & Federal Fair Housing Act, the Texas Administrative Code, and the Texas Property Code for  pertaining to Individuals in the HCS waiver.  He will also discuss resources and concerns DRTx has concerning “renter’s rights”.  His goal today is to ensure that the recipients/individuals in the program, their families, and the HCS providers understand what the Texas and Federal Fair Housing Acts are and the rights of those recipients/individuals in the HCS waiver program.

DRTx will present on HCS recipients/renters’ rights.
The presentation will focus on HCS recipients’ rights under:
-the Federal and Texas Fair Housing Acts,
-the Texas Property Code, and
-the Texas Administrative Code.
Recipients’ rights to request reasonable accommodations or modifications under the Fair Housing Act and
DRTx’s interpretation of recipient’s rights under the residential lease agreement under Section 263.503 of the Texas Administrative Code.

Introduction:  

Christopher McGreal: Senior Litigation Attorney for Disability Rights of Texas

Mr. McGreal is an attorney with Disability Rights Texas (“DRTx”).  DRTx is the federally designated legal and protection advocacy organization for individuals in Texas.  He has been with DRTx since 2011.

With DRTx, Mr. McGreal primarily practices disability/civil rights matters in the areas of housing, land use/zoning involving Home Community-based Services group homes, and transportation.  Mr. McGreal has successfully litigated cases in federal district court and state appellate court to final decisions on the merits involving HCS recipients facing discrimination by cities and homeowners associations.
