HHSC LTCR Publishes Provider Letter 2026-02 Recommendations for Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
LTCR has published PL 2026-02 regarding recommendations for tuberculosis (TB) screening.
This provider letter provides guidance to Assisted Living Facility (ALF), Day Activity and Health Services (DAHS), DAHS with Individualized Skills and Socialization, and DAHS with Individualized Skills and Socialization Only facilities. This means this applies to the Licensed ISS program that our HCS/TxHmL and DBMD individuals attend.
The letter provides recommendations for TB screening policies and procedures based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Department of State Health Services (DSHS) guidelines.
DAHS with ISS Only providers are not required to screen all employees for TB within two weeks of hire, or provide annual TB education for staff. DAHS with ISS only provider are expected to develop infection control policies and ensure policy and procedures are compliant with additional guidance from HHSC. They recommend you follow CDC guidance. Please read the letter carefully.
“DAHS with Individualized Skills and Socialization Only facilities are required by Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Title 26, Part 1, Chapter 559, Section 559.227(n), to create and enforce written policies and procedures for infection control, including spread of disease to ensure staff compliance with state law, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and CDC.”
The CDC and DSHS recommend that employees and volunteers receive the following TB screening upon hire:
1. IGRA or TST;
2. Baseline risk assessment; and
3. TB signs and symptoms screening assessment.
