We may have a follow-up session in March that is open to all administrators/program managers.
Please join for our 2nd Nurse’s Round Table Discussion, in what we hope to be a continuing series, that will occur at least quarterly. One of our goals is to provide an open and safe space for nurses to bring up their concerns, questions, and frustrations. We hope that since we have nurses with such diverse backgrounds, that there will be many positive ideas and solutions to be heard.
We need to establish leadership roles in IDD nursing. We can start through the use of the “Round Table” discussion platform and forum to identify our needs in Texas. This has never been more true than during the current COVID-19 Pandemic. Texas Nurses need leadership voices and roles through joint forums established to provide information and feedback to those we are accountable to, such as regulatory entities like TNA (Texas Nurses Association), BON (Board of Nursing-Texas), HHSC (Texas Health and Human Services Commission-specifically the IDD Redesign Committee for HHS) and through organizations like PPAT (Private Provider’s Association of Texas), PACSTX (Provider’s Alliance Committee Support of Texas) and IDD Nursing Associations that support IDD Providers and Nursing Staff. Our goal is to share these concerns and ideas with some of these groups for you in hopes of creating positive improvements.
With the establishment of a forum, we can contribute to improving our experience now and help to identify problems and solutions that will help retain nurses and improve the work environment. We hope we can also find common ground and improved solutions. Together let’s establish solid navigation for current and future Texas nurses serving Individuals with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities in the HCS (Home & Community Based Services), TxHmL (Texas Home Living) and ICF/IID (Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals With Intellectual Disabilities) programs.
